Choosing The Right Stroller For You

·        Determine the activity you will be using your stroller for most.  If you plant to mostly use your stroller for walking, most strollers will meet your needs.  If you plan to use the stroller for running or jogging, you should look into purchasing a jogging stroller.  Remember, though, that the wheels on jogging strollers are larger than those on a regular walking stroller, making them harder to maneuver through narrow spaces, such as store aisles.

·        Consider how many children you have and their ages.  For infants, you want to use a carriage stroller or a stroller with reclining seats until the child is able to sit up by him or herself in a sit-up stroller.  If you have more than one child, you should look into tandem or side-by-side strollers with enough seats for each of your kids.

·        Decide which features are important to you.  Do you want a lightweight stroller, washable seats, seats that recline, removable canopies, or multi-terrain wheels?  Do you need a stroller with adjustable handles to accommodate parents of varying heights? Decide what stroller accessories will be important to you while on the run with your child and look for a stroller that includes these features.

·        Make sure you understand how to use the stroller.  With all the extra features available on strollers today, it is important that you understand how to use your stroller.  Be sure to know how to use the seatbelt and safety restraint systems, as well as how to easily fold the stroller and open it up.

·        Consider the frame of the stroller.  Stroller frames can be make from aluminum, plastic, or steel.  Those made from steel or aluminum will last longer, but tend to be heavier than those made of plastic.  If you are going to be using your stroller mostly in humid areas or near the ocean, consider purchasing one with an aluminum frame, as it will not rust.

·        Make sure your stroller has a large storage area.  While out with your child in a stroller, you are limited on the amounts of things you can hold.  A large storage basket under the stroller will make shopping and going out with your child much easier.
