There are several ways parents can keep informed about product safety recalls on all types of household products, including baby furniture, cribs, strollers and other baby accessories.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) allows parents to register to receive information on recalls via Twitter, email alerts and widgets you can put on your own websites.

Parents are encouraged to visit the CPSC's blog site, OnSafety, to sign up for the various alert methods or to view the latest safety and recall news.

The CPSC also recently announced that on-the-go parents or caregivers can receive recall alerts on their mobile phones by downloading the Recalls.gov application.

This application gives parents the ability to see a list of recent recalls from the CPSC, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture. These agencies issue thousands of recall announcements each year for millions of products due to safety concerns.

The application includes pictures of the recalled products, when applicable, as well as information on what to do if you have the product.

Moms and dads can also limit the results they see with the application by choosing only the product categories they are interested in. They can also search for specific products in their homes, daycare centers or schools, by using the search option.
